Dancing Dreams: How Komani’s Young Talents Inspired a Village—and a Nation

Some of the brightest spirit at Komani Estate comes alive not in the fields, but in rhythm and movement. It started as a simple gathering: a group of children who loved to dance, their laughter echoing around the village as they choreographed moves to local music. Their energy was infectious—so much joy, so much talent. Soon, it was impossible not to notice just how special they were.

Recognising their passion and potential, Selby decided to formalise the dance club. An instructor was brought in, channeling their enthusiasm into structured sessions, teaching new techniques and encouraging teamwork. The transformation was remarkable. Kids who had once danced just for fun began to grow as artists, leaders, and friends, united by movement and pride.

Word spread quickly. Airborne, a respected local dance figure, heard about the club and came to see them perform. He was so impressed that he helped connect the dancers with Bakers Inn—a beloved Zimbabwean bakery brand—who were searching for stars for their next Instagram advertisement.

The advert shoot was more than a performance; it was a celebration. The children saw themselves on camera, representing not just Komani but young Zimbabwean talent. Their families, peers, and teachers watched with pride as the advert went live, bringing excitement and recognition to the entire village.

As a thank you for their effort, Bakers Inn offered something transformational—their school fees paid. Suddenly, dance was not just a hobby, but a bridge to opportunity, education, and bigger dreams.

The club has become a vibrant hub for Komani, radiating happiness and hope. Children gain confidence and new skills, parents witness their kids thrive, and the whole community is uplifted. Seeing themselves in the advert lit a spark: "If we can achieve this together," one dancer said, "who knows what we’ll do next?"

Their story continues to inspire Komani—and anyone who believes in the power of art, community, and believing in young people. At Selby, we’re honoured to nurture this journey, and can’t wait to see where their dancing dreams will take them next.
